Good morning blog-readers! It’s another beautiful (still hot – but with a breeze!) day in Paris.
This morning I caught up with Gabe’s Art and Architecture class at the Pompidou museum. Before going into the museum, we sat down at a local cafe for a discussion about the architecture of the museum itself. The Pompidou is certainly a standout in Paris because the facade of the building is completely different than the typical Parisian architecture. In fact, the building is inside out! All of the piping and structural support is on the outside of the building. Gabe asked us why we think the building was created this way – what did we think the architect intended to do by taking such a drastic departure from the city’s “norm?” Emma, Dani, Will, Mira, and Alex fired back with their many insightful opinions. Parents, be very proud of your little ones. I learned so much from the short time I spent with this class – I can’t wait to meet up with everyone else’s, too!
Betsy’s photography class woke up dawn to catch the first morning light at Sacre Coeur. Here’s a pic of some sleepy, but excited, faces!
Michael’s class went off to visit the D’Orsay museum this morning, and I’m eager to hear what her drawing and painting students report back about the iconic building with its gorgeous art. Yesterday, Michael taught her students “blind contour drawing.” They each placed one of their hand on the table, while they sketched with the other underneath the table. Here’s a photo of them hard at work!
Audrey’s History of Fashion went to the Louvre for a guided tour this afternoon. A perfect way to escape the heat and plunge into some seriously cool culture (too cheesy? I went for it). Not sure if photos are allowed inside the museum, but I definitely will post some tomorrow if they are.
Maggie’s French Culture class is out and about around the city today. Will report back later what they are up to! But here’s a photo of one of their many adventures this past week.
Yesterday afternoon I hung back at the residence with some lovely ladies for an afternoon activity of reading, drawing, or postcard writing. We relaxed in the beautiful courtyard.
Here are some other photos of afternoon activities and other adventures!
